How we handle your data at Nest
Effective Date: January 2, 2026
Nest ("Nest," "we," "us," "our") provides the Nest Chrome Extension and related services, including optional Nest Chat and account/billing features. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we share it, and the choices you have.
1. What this policy covers
- Use the Extension features (tab organization, snoozing, backup/restore, notes).
- Create or use a Nest account.
- Use Nest Chat (including chat streaming and commands).
- Use billing/checkout/portal features.
- Contact support.
2. Information we collect
A) Information you provide
- Account information: email address and account credentials when you register or sign in.
- Support communications: information you provide when contacting us.
- Chat content (optional): text you type into Nest Chat and recent chat history sent to our servers.
B) Information the Extension processes locally
- Tab management data: tab titles, URLs, window/tab identifiers, and grouping/categorization.
- Snoozed tab data: scheduling information plus tab info required to restore.
- Backup/restore data: saved session backups and restore metadata.
- Notes: notes you create inside the Extension.
- Chat history (local): chat messages stored locally for conversation continuity.
C) Information sent to our servers
- Authentication data: session tokens (JWT) and security metadata.
- Entitlement/subscription state: plan status and billing-related status.
- Chat requests: your message content and minimal local context required to answer.
- Basic request metadata: IP address, timestamps, device/browser identifiers.
3. How we use information
- Provide core Extension functionality: tab organization, snoozing, backup/restore, notes.
- Provide account features: login, account management, verification, password reset, and security.
- Provide Nest Chat (optional): generate responses, stream output, and execute user-requested commands.
- Provide entitlement and billing features: enable paid features, manage trials/subscriptions.
- Improve reliability and prevent abuse: debugging, monitoring, rate limiting, fraud prevention.
- We do not sell your personal information.
4. How we share information
- Service providers: hosting, payment processor (Stripe), LLM providers for Chat, email delivery.
- Legal/safety: we may disclose if required by law or to protect rights and security.
- Business transfers: information may be transferred in mergers or acquisitions.
- No human review by default: we do not access your data for routine operations.
5. Data storage and retention
- Local storage: Extension data is stored in your browser's local storage. You can delete this anytime.
- Server-side: Account data retained while active, deleted within 30 days of verified deletion request.
- Billing records retained as required for accounting and legal compliance.
- Chat data: limited logs retained up to 30 days for reliability and security.
6. Security
- We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. However, no method is 100% secure.
7. Your choices and controls
- Disable or avoid Chat: Nest Chat is optional.
- Manage or delete local Extension data via browser settings.
- Uninstall the Extension to remove local storage.
- Access/update/delete your account in the Extension's account area.
- Opt out of non-essential communications.
